THIS IS WHAT 25 000 BARRELS OF OIL A DAY LOOKS LIKE

It is estimated that between 25 000 and 40 000 barrels of BP's oil is gushing out into the gulf each day.
Below is a video on what 25 000 barrels of oil looks like. Imagine that (and this is on the low end of the estimation) full of oil leaking into the water every single day!

ALCOHOLIC DRINKS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

[above is a Margarita magnified by 1000]

Bevshots, a company, has produced a series of prints of popular alcoholic beverages that have gone under the microscope.

The entire process - letting a drop of liquor dry out on a slide inside an airtight container, and photographing the results. It can apparently take up to three months and as many as 200 shots to properly capture the drink's constituent parts.

The bright colours in the prints are a result of dried out citric acid and complex sugars used in the drinks.

[champagne]

Bevshots are selling these photographs as prints or larger artworks, which can be a reminder that your hangover started as something beautiful. Prices start at $19.99; truly affordable contemporary art.

WOOLLY POCKETS

Woolly Pockets is a garden company that creates living walls and vertical gardens that are great for utilising around a small house. The concept is breathable, flexible and modular gardening containers, which come in two sizes, one which are designed for horizontal surfaces and the other designed to be hung on walls. They can be used in doors (there are built-in moisture barriers to protect furniture) or out doors.

Now people won't have any trouble incorporating lush greener in tight spaces, as these green pockets don't take up much space at all and can be hung up against walls if wanted.

FREE-DIVER PLUNGES INTO ABYSS

Free-diver, Guillaume Nery, jumps into the world's second deepest underwater sinkhole, Dean's Blue Hole in the Bahamas.

Nery, himself, contends that no free-diver can make it the bottom of Dean's Blue Hole, and never will, which he spent four afternoons at pulling off stunts to stimulate effects for the video. His girlfriend, and fellow free-diver, Julie Gautier filmed them whilst free-diving herself.

TERRESTRIAL SHRUB ROVER

"“From the time of our birth, humans have felt a primordial urge to explore — to blaze new trails, map new lands, and answer profound questions about ourselves and our universe.” – NASA

In the spirit of NASA and its forthcoming 2020 lunar expeditions in preparation for colonizing the moon, the Terrestrial Shrub Rover presents the opportunity to explore terrestrial and social environments back on Earth from within a manned, foliage bedecked, solar electric powered rover. (also in development is an unmanned, remotely controlled, webcam version)" - Justin Shull

THE TECHNOLOGISATION OF HUMANS

Technology sadly consumes us so much that people choose the carry the iPad down the aisle during their wedding. Okay if you're reading your vows off the iPad, I'll let it slid, but carrying it down the aisle isn't enough that you have to pose with it in your wedding photos? This man's wife is either a major fanatic of the iPad herself, or really does not comprehend how absurd her new husband's behaviour is! He is truly giving the iPad more attention than her, and this is at the alter. How sad...

Oh also this guy mentioned iPhones and Tweeting in his vows, oh yeah and let's not forget that they called it the iPad wedding. Hmm really gross don't you think?

YOUR MACBOOK CAN HAVE A PEDOSTACHE LIKE MINE ;)

Stick with me, baby! are MacBook decals that turn the Apple logo into bro's with fros or bro's with mos.
They go for around $10US each, but they are kinda cute! I think they need a range for women with maybe an eyebrow range or awesome wavy Charlie's Angel type hair (yes Farrah Fawcett type).

ABOUT TO BURST

It's holidays, well for me. Sadly not for all.
I need to stop eating for the sake of just doing something, I'm not even hungry half the time I eat. Thank god the soccer is on or I'd go bored laying in bed waiting to fall asleep. I don't really feel like blogging right now, but don't worry I have plenty of things to show you.
I just need to change me right now.

A REASON, A SEASON, OR A LIFETIME

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or
a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you
will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON . . . It is
usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have
come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you
with guidance and support, to aid you physically,
emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a
godsend, and they are! They are there for the reason
you need them to be.

Then, without any wrong doing on your part, or at an
inconvenient time, this person will say or do something
to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die.
Sometimes they walk away.

Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realise is that our need has been met, our
desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you
sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.
When people come into your life for a SEASON . . .
Because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.

They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount
of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; things
you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional
foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the
person, and put what you have learned to use in all
other relationships and areas of your life. It is said
that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

LIFE-SIZED SPACESHIPS MADE FROM PLYWOOD

Australian artist, Peter Hennessey, spends all his spare time making 1:1 scales models of various spacecrafts. The image below is of the Hubble Telescope. But he has also built the Voyager, the Lunar Rover from the moon landing, and an Ejector Seat (my favourite).

THE END OF BUSY BY LEO

"Life seems but a quick succession of busy nothings." - Jane Austen.

Stop being busy and your job is half done.
Think about how busy you are, and how it has become a way of bragging: I'm so busy, I must be important! ...

SHANGHAI'S SKYLINE: A BEFORE AND AFTER

The top photo is from 1990, where Shanghai looked like a really nice green city. I love the older architecture and the strips of greenery. Too bad now, image below, it really does look like you could film Blade Runner 2 in it.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Really one of those days where I know I should be doing something, but really do not want too. My room is a mess, there's actually dust bunnies in some corners. But I don't feel like getting up from here just yet. I have one assessment to finish off before tomorrow but I don't have the final draft, so I cannot move forward with that. I know I should be studying, but this exam is such a tedious and mundane one. I don't wanna do anything except sit here and wait for this day to end.
I'm so glad it's not raining outside, but the wind is getting a bit strong. This blue sky is so divine and rare right now.
Really all I want to do right now is sit in a grassy field with Sense and Sensibility. I want to wear a black woolen coat with turned over sleeves covered in lace.

New addition to my books list :)

BLACKBOARD BROOCHES

Zoe Brand, an emerging Sydney Designer, has created speech bubble brooches. A really personal and creative brooch, that can be changed day to day without having to actually change the brooch it self! They're made of aluminium with a layer of black board paint, but unfortunately sell at $120 for one. A bit high on the price, but seriously guys you can easily do this yourself!
None the less, the idea is really cute and different. Definitely a statement brooch.

MAGNETIC PHOTO ROPE

A 58 inch long rope that comes with eight tiny, but mighty magnets. It's a quirky way to decorate without using the simple and common photo frame, and there five different colours to choose from. Weighted bottom of the rope keeps the rope perfectly straight up against the wall, and there's a loop at the top of the rope that allows you to hang it anywhere you like.

USB KEYBOARD VACCUUM

LIGHT BULB TERRARIUM

Simple, small and a great way to brighten up any space. Not to mention a terrific way to recycle burnt out light bulbs. The ones I found on Incredible Things are no longer for sale on Etsy, but fortunately Reuel sent me a link with information for making some yourself. Life Hacker have set out instructions that any one can follow. In the end all a person needs to do for maintenance is to give the terrariums partial sunlight and a bit of water once a week. xx

THE MONTH OF MAY

I'm so glad May is over, well not utterly glad because it means another month gone. But most of May, for me, was incredibly stressful and hectic. I only blogged four times. I honestly had zero time for myself. I kept trying to find time to do things that were relaxing or leisurely, but I'd end up cancelling them to concentrate on assessments.

Something valuable I realised in that time was how much we, as students, cannot do anything if another student has used help to finish off assessments from family members or friends, and therefore received a better mark. And also, working on assessments last minute as well. It's not like our lecturers are going to give us extra marks if we say anything, the system unfortunately does not work like that. There is nothing we can do! It's really a frustrating feeling to have to deal with. Really in the future you just have to work even harder. How sad is it that at this age we're surrounded by people who still cannot be bothered to utilise good time management skills. This is tertiary education people, not high school!!

IWATCH WATCH CONCEPT DESIGN

With such a craze over Apple's products it doesn't surprise me at all that ADR Studio has created a watch concept based on Apple's iPhone. Not only does it visually resemble the latest technology released by Apple, but it features applications, has WiFi, bluetooth, and is also able to sync with an iPhone or an iPad. Also, as an awesome added bonus, this watch comes with it's very own built-in projector. Why would you not want one? x
